Weekend Update

This bag fits so much and the straps make it really comfortable to carry. It is perfect for trips to Trader Joe's and CVS and the bright Lilly pattern (I have the one in the middle, which is called Tootie Fruity) always makes me smile.

These two are just the most amazing. They are my fellow early risers and my role models and seeing them is always the nicest thing. It has been so nice to spend time with them this weekend and accompany them to some snazzy events for the half marathon that they're running in today. I am so lucky and grateful that they are my friends and my sisters.

This shade is not typically spring-y but I love it. I got it from a friend as a Christmas gift and it paired with short nails (see above, including a fairly egregious engagement ring shot that I originally sent to my sister) makes me oh so happy. I did one coat of the polish and a clear top coat, so it came out a lot more red than it looks in the bottle.

Wishing everyone a happy and very relaxing Sunday!

Friday Faves

I don't drink, and sometimes even I get tired of Sprite and seltzer with lime. These are an awesome alternative and I think a tub full of these and ice at a casual party or picnic would be really fun.
Fizzy Lizzy (full list of flavors here), Grown Up Soda (full list of flavors here.)

I've been making different versions of Skip To My Lou's Monster Cookie Dough Dip since last spring. I tend to leave out the butter because that is just too rich for me. It's awesome for a get-together with the girls and since it's so easy to make (and hard to mess up), I hope to make it for Dude's family the next time we visit them in Wisconsin.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and sending extra-good vibes to my girls who are running in the Nike Women Half Marathon in DC on Sunday! You kids are amazing.

#pursecontents

I found myself with a little spare time while waiting for an appointment this morning, so I did what any normal person would do...emptied out my purse and took a picture of everything inside of it.

The bag I used today is a small Hervé Chapelier tote that I've had for a while. I still love it (and my inner high schooler will always be on Team Hervé.)

In no particular order...
  • Kate Spade wallet
  • Nook with Lilly Pulitzer cover
  • Privet House for Target notebook that I made into my planner and pen
  • Tangerine-scented hand sanitizer
  • Eos lip balms (I am addicted and am always throwing different ones from one purse into another. At least I'm prepared)
  • Marc Jacobs for Target pouch for medicine and makeup on a really good day
  • CVS baby wipes
  • Vera Bradley sunglass case
  • Lulu's sunglasses
  • Smathers and Branson key fob
  • Marc by Marc Jacobs coin purse/card holder
Dude's bachelor weekend starts tomorrow, and while I will miss him, I am looking forward to creeping around the city by myself for a couple of days. Hopefully I'll have some fun stuff to share after my adventures this weekend!

Some Blue and Pansies For Spring

A little navy dress for Dude's fraternity alumni event.
Staring At Stars dress, Vince Camuto peep-toes, vintage clutch.

The most special part of my outfit, obscured by my hair: gold and citrine
earrings that my mom had made for me from my grandmother's pins.

Spotted on my mom's and my walk to Dupont Circle.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and happy Monday and a great week!

Unique Vases and Countdown to Mom

When I was in Florida, my mom and I had an afternoon for shopping and running errands in Palm Beach Gardens. The Gardens Mall is one of those things that is my childhood in the best way possible.
When we were at Bloomingdale's, my mom showed me these awesome vases. I love them precisely because they are so not me: very minimalist and edgy in contrast to the flowery, vintagey feeling that pervades a lot of my personal and (attempted) home decorating style.

(Rosenthal, Available at Bloomingdale's, $35 each)

Speaking of my mom, I'm very fortunate that she'll be in DC for a couple of days starting tomorrow. We have a couple of appointments and hopefully will be able to check out the last of the cherry blossoms. I'm trying to think of some fun places to take her where we haven't been before. Although it's not very unique, maybe we'll do a movie night--somehow the thought of seeing the awesomely horrible Olympus Has Fallen with her commentary sounds like the best thing in the world.

An Ode To Friendship and Technology

The iPhone 4 that i upgraded to for approximately 99 cents is one of the best presents I've ever gotten myself. I love, love, love the camera. And Instagram. And Instaframe. (you can follow me on Instagram @emilyvday. i wouldn't do it if you dislike pictures of flowers.) I also love having iTunes on my phone. It makes me way more likely to walk or take the bus to run my errands, which is excellent for my body and my wallet.

Here are some of my favorite pictures of flowers that I took while creeping around Foggy Bottom/West End.

I took some pictures of two of my lovely friends today for something they were working on. One of them suggested this pose and I love how it came out.

I'm so happy that I got to start my week off with quality girl time and good weather. Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!

Florida Fun Times

I have been very much remiss in posting here. Sickness and travel have been the culprits, but I am happy to be posting while I am still traveling (from my mom's apartment in West Palm Beach.)

Here are some random pictures from my trip so far, and I promise there are more to come.

My outfit for a wedding my mom, sister, sister's bf, and Dude and I attended this weekend.
Marc New York-Andrew Marc dress, Christian Siriano for Payless shoes.

I took this picture of part of a Bloomingdale's display when my mom and I went to look at china patterns. I love it and saw a shirt with this design on it. I couldn't find it on the Bloomie's website and it is sadly sold out on ShopBop, but here it is in all of its awesomeness. It is by Wildfox.

When I am home, my shopping ensembles are actually presentable because I'm with my mom.
Lili's Closet top (Anthropologie), Old Navy jeans, Jack Rogers sandals, Beirn hobo bag.

I went to meet my dad on Clematis Street for coffee and saw this. Oh, how drool-worthy it would be to have my own store where I grew up!! So fun.

Looking forward to posting more in general and sharing more of my Florida pictures soon!
